The International Innovation Community of New Material Science and Technology Park is an innovation and entrepreneurship base of New Material Science and Technology Park to promote the construction of science and innovation, realize the coherence of research and production and innovation development, and promote the transformation of industrialization, where many professional research institutes are gathered.
"When our institute first arrived here, it had three floors. With the growing market demand and increasing requirements for our products, we later expanded by two floors." Wu Hao Di, vice president of Nanjing Weir Pharmaceutical Group Research Institute, introduced.
Nanjing Weir Pharmaceutical Group's Research Institute is in Building J of the International Innovation Community. The Institute covers a wide range of aspects such as small-trial research and development, quality research, technology transformation, registration, application evaluation, etc., providing R&D technology support for enterprise development and industrial innovation.
"Our main products are pharmaceutical excipients, especially complex preparations such as injection preparations. The core mission of the institute is to conduct cutting-edge development and applied research on related technologies and products." Wu Hao Di said.

Previously, the quality of polysorbate 80 produced by Weir Pharmaceuticals was not high, with yellowish color and impurities exceeding the standard, which contrasted with the transparent products of international giant companies. Later, through several years of R & D research and development, the Institute successfully raised the purity of oleic acid from 70% to 99.5%, realizing the domestic substitution of important excipients for pharmaceuticals. In the new district, pharmaceutical companies such as Crest Pharmaceuticals, Jianyou Biochemistry and Kefepin Pharmaceuticals are its partners.

"For the Institute, to promote innovation into practice, through the research and production is essential." Wu Hao Di said, "For this reason, we have long-term cooperation with Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, Jiangsu Provincial Industrial Technology Research Institute, etc., we introduced the university technology, universities through us to understand the market, the two sides jointly cultivate talents, each other are embedded in the innovation system, the formation of a positive cycle."
On the basis of perfect hardware facilities and talent reserves, Weir Research Institute has set its sights on the emerging track of synthetic biology. As the key landing of this strategy, Weir Pharmaceuticals has made substantial progress in the project of 11,000 tons of new materials for bio-based medicine in the park - the first batch of 1,000 tons of products has successfully rolled out of the production line.
In the building next door to Weir Pharmaceutical Research Institute - International Innovation Community Building G, Jiangsu Dana Chemical Research Institute is also striving along a road of industrial transformation and upgrading.

"We used to focus on the research and development of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide derivatives, benefiting from the industrial agglomeration of the New Materials Science and Technology Park, where many enterprises are our customers." The relevant person in charge of Jiangsu Dana Chemical Research Institute said, "With the maturity and stabilization of the basic products, the current core task of the institute is to help enterprises gradually upgrade to the field of higher value-added green coatings, wet electronic chemicals and semiconductor materials."

Dana Research Institute has existing synthetic application center, water-based resin center, analysis and testing center and other professional scientific research centers, at the same time, it and Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University, Jiangnan University, Nanjing University of Technology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other well-known universities and scientific research institutes to establish a long-term cooperative relationship, and together to build a professional chemical reaction and engineering research and development platform, accelerate the technology from the laboratory to industrialization.
Also in Building G, Jiangsu Zhongqi Technology Co., Ltd. has laid out a new material R&D center here.
In the 6500 square meters R&D center, equipped with nuclear magnetic resonance instrument, time-of-flight mass spectrometer, fully automatic reaction calorimeter and other equipments, a first-class process safety laboratory has been built in China.
"At present, the new materials R&D center of Zhongqi has set up a high-level innovation and R&D team of 150 people, focusing on the research and development of pesticide-created drugs, generic drugs and other projects." The relevant person in charge of the new materials science and technology park said, "Now the park is actively promoting the cooperation between Zhongqi and Nanjing University, Nanjing Agricultural University and other universities to carry out new green agrochemical products technology research."

In the international innovation community, in-depth cooperation and collaborative research between enterprise research institutes and universities and academician teams is by no means an isolated case, but a key mechanism in the park to promote efficient throughput from R&D to industrialization, and continue to drive industrial upgrading with innovation breakthroughs.
Earlier, in cooperation with the research team of academician Tang Yong of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, CK Conrun has completed the technological research and development to the industrialization of the results of the landing, and has now built 30,000 tons/year of high-performance vinyl new material projects in the park. Now, relying on the park's new materials industry innovation alliance and pilot base, academician Tang Yong will build the Geji Research Institute in the international innovation community to further explore the original research results of domestic and foreign universities and research institutes, and innovate the transformative technology of new chemical materials.
In addition, the China Sinochem Animal Nutrition Center, led by academician Zheng Yuguo of Zhejiang University of Technology, is also located here.

"Not only here, the supporting construction of the entire park is becoming more and more complete, especially the pilot base. This is a necessary bridge and core protection for the Institute from the laboratory to the scale production of small trials, which can greatly reduce the risk of industrialization and accelerate the landing of R & D results." Wu Hao Di said, the completion of the pilot base is the common expectation of the current park enterprises, which is why many companies have signed early to move in.
In the future, the total distance from Weir Pharmaceutical Research Institute to the pilot base and then to the manufacturing plant is within 5 kilometers. The 5km road will link up the efficient closed loop from original innovation, process validation to large-scale manufacturing, forming a "convenient channel" for scientific and technological achievements to accelerate to the market.
"We also build Nanjing green chemical R & D results conversion center, in the international innovation community and micro-spectrum technology group to build 'AI + green chemical public technology service platform', whether it is the new area of universities or park enterprises, can use the platform professional testing services and R & D resources. " The relevant person in charge of the new materials science and technology park said.
