"Steel Demand"! National-Level Platform Establishes Base in Nanjing

In the past, critical processes such as slag removal assessment and furnace mouth condition identification relied heavily on the experience of seasoned operators. Today, high-definition industrial cameras and AI vision algorithms have taken the place of the human eye and brain, enabling a leap from “seeing” to “understanding” and ultimately to “precise control.” Since the AI platform went live in 2025,The smelting time per furnace was reduced by 2 minutes, resulting in an additional annual production capacity of 112,000 metric tons and total annual cost savings of over 40 million yuan. The

The example above is a microcosm of the profound transformation that "AI + Steel" is bringing to the industry! How can we ensure that AI truly proves its worth alongside molten steel at 1,000 degrees Celsius, bridge the "last mile" between "computing power" and "the furnace," and rapidly replicate and scale these achievements across the vast industrial ecosystem?

Here's the answer

National Pilot Base for Artificial Intelligence Applications

(Metallurgy, Manufacturing Sector)

Officially launched in the Jiangbei New Area of Nanjing

Industrial Foundation + Innovation Ecosystem

The base is set to be established in the Jiangbei New Area of Nanjing

The National Pilot Base for Artificial Intelligence Applications (Metallurgy in the Manufacturing Sector) was jointly launched by China Steel Research Technology Group Co., Ltd., Nanjing Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel Co., Ltd., and the Nanjing Jiangbei New Area.

The decision to establish the base in Nanjing was driven by the city’s robust industrial foundation and thriving innovation ecosystem. Furthermore, the base is situated within the Southern Jiangsu Special Steel Materials National Advanced Manufacturing Cluster, surrounded by a concentration of leading steel enterprises and advanced manufacturing resources, which provide critical support for the technical validation, open testing, and widespread adoption of “AI+Steel” technologies.

The launch of the National Pilot Base for Artificial Intelligence Applications (Metallurgy Sector in the Manufacturing Industry) marks a significant milestone for China"AI + Steel" has entered a new phase driven by national-level infrastructure.

As the only national-level pilot-scale platform in the metallurgy sector in ChinaThe base will drive the transition of AI achievements from production line validation to industry-wide adoption, and from localized pilot projects to large-scale implementation, accelerating the development of internationally competitive AI solutions for the metallurgical industry and contributing “Chinese standards” and “Chinese solutions” to the intelligent transformation of the global steel industry.
