On October 21st, A.T. Kearney, a global management consulting firm, released its 2024 Global City Rankings. Almost all Chinese cities in the list have risen in the global rankings, demonstrating the strong resilience and potential of Chinese cities in terms of economic development and internationalization.
Nanjing's performance was particularly impressive, rising from 93rd place globally last year to 83rd this year, not only making the greatest progress among the top 100 Chinese cities, but also achieving its highest ranking ever.
In this year's Global City Rankings, a total of 31 cities in China are on the list, of which Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong are among the world's top 10, and 13 cities are ranked among the world's top 100.
Among them, the Yangtze River Delta became the city group that contributed the most cities to the list this year. In addition to first-tier cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou and other major provincial capitals, Suzhou entered the world's top 100 for the first time, and Ningbo, Hefei and Wuxi ranked among the world's top 150.
In this regard, A.T. Kearney pointed out in its Global Cities Index Report 2024 that, as the benchmark of China's city clusters, the Yangtze River Delta has demonstrated outstanding resilience in the face of uncertainties in the global economy. As industrial support continues to be strengthened and inter-city exchanges and interconnections become closer, synergies between provincial capitals and neighboring cities in industries such as automobiles, new energy, high-value-added industrial goods, and consumer goods will be further deepened, realizing the overall prosperity of the city cluster.
Compared with the "Global Innovation Index" released by the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization and the "Global Livability Report" released by The Economist, A.T. Kearney's "Comprehensive Ranking of Global Cities" gives more prominence to the concept of "city", including five dimensions of business activities, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political affairs.
